- Cloning
- System Clones made to an empty disk could fail to boot without running 'Fix Windows Boot Problems'. This has been resolved.
- Imaging
- Incremental image backup of a dynamic volumes could fail to mount. This has been resolved.
- Image backup of the system volume on a dynamic disk using Rescue Media may fail with 'Access is denied'. This has been resolved.
- Rescue Media Builder
If the Rescue Media drivers override settings were modified in a particular sequence, then the Rescue Media Builder could delete drivers from the host system C:\Windows\Inf folder. This has been resolved.
- General
- Some files were being left in C:\Users\<USER>\AppData\Local\Temp. These are now deleted after use.
- When a backup Desktop shortcut was created with the 'Prompt' option, backups were incorrectly running in the background. This has been resolved.
- Backup comments added via Desktop shortcuts were not getting saved. This has been resolved.
- We have added a new menu option for submitting a support case. After contacting support for a case number, you can now take the 'Help' > Submit Support Ticket…' to provide log and system information to help us to resolve issues.

- CPU Priority Setting was incorrectly reset during upgrade install. This has been resolved.

- On the Existing Backups view, sorting by Type or Comment didn't change the sort order. This has been resolved.
Note: Column sorting is only valid when viewing 'Backup Files', not 'Backup Sets''.
- Cloning
- Macrium Reflect Clone operations can now be run in the background.
- Imaging
- On rare occasions, cancelling an image backup takes longer, and may appear to hang. This has been resolved.
- General
- In Restore Only mode, the viBoot option was grayed when a Windows image was selected. This has been resolved.
- When a backup Desktop shortcut was created with the 'Prompt' option, backups were incorrectly running in the background. This has been resolved.
- If a PC is set to automatically sleep after a period of inactivity, and is also set to sleep after completing a backup, then both could trigger at the same time, so the "Computer will now be suspended" pop-up would still be visible after the machine was woken up. This has been resolved.
- For backups run interactively, the "Backup Complete" pop-up will no longer prevent the system from automatically sleeping due to inactivity.
- The 'On Completion' combo box on the 'Task Status' tab could fail to respond to mouse click events. This has been resolved.

- MIG could incorrectly block the data de-duplication process 'FSDMHOST.EXE'. This has been resolved.
- CBT
- Formatting a new partition or resizing an existing partition could result in a BSoD. This has been resolved.
- General
- Reflect could freeze when Enter Key is pressed while the focus on text area of the restore/clone scroll window. This has been resolved.
- On some Windows 7 systems, due to third party DLL injection, Reflect could get into hang state. This has been resolved.
- On some systems, Windows could fail to provide a default GUI font and Reflect would crash. This has been resolved.

Bug fixes and Improvements v8.1.7469 - 18th April 2023
- Disk Images
- We've improved the speed of mounting images in Windows File Explorer on some systems.
- When imaging a FAT32 partition with a very large FAT table, If the backup target ran out of space while saving the FAT table Reflect could crash. This has been resolved.
- Reflect now uses the improved Write method to calibrate the target disk write speed. While it may take slightly longer to perform the test than previously, the results are more realistic and closely match the image write performance.
- Drives encrypted with BitLocker would show as unformatted if the Windows BitLocker WMI component was not registered correctly. This has been resolved.
- Reflect could crash when an image restore was initiated from Explorer Context Menu, or via command line option. This has been resolved.
- SQL Backups
- SQL backups could sometimes not honor retention settings for password protected network shares and for unnamed SQL Server instances. This has been resolved.
- viBoot
- In extremely rare circumstances the MRVMDK driver could generate a buffer overflow. This has been resolved.
- viBoot may incorrectly display “No bootable drive detected error” when launched from Reflect. This has been resolved.
- CBT
- After resizing a volume, CBT will not re-enable on the volume until after a system restart. This has been resolved.
- MRCBT failed to attach to some partitions created with legacy MS-DOS tools. This has been resolved.
- General
- We've added a new theme that compliments the currently selected Windows theme. Take the ‘Other Tasks’ > ‘Change Theme…' menu option and select 'Windows Color Theme’
- We've improved device driver compatibility with Microsoft DirectStorage.
- On some Windows 7 systems, due to third party DLL injection, Reflect could become unresponsive. This has been resolved.
- Email parameters {BACKUPFILENAME} and {BACKUPFILEPATH} would contain incorrect data for skipped backups as no file is generated. This has been resolved by replacing the parameters with empty text.
- The password ‘Reveal’ button has been removed from the default settings for the SMTP Server password field in the custom email configuration. This was highlighted as a potential security concern for our MSP customers that configured Macrium Reflect for their own customers.
- Various

- Disk Images
- We've improved the speed of Incremental and Differential images for source disks with a 4K sector size.
- Inc/Diff image size could be larger than expected after a system reboot when CBT was disabled. This has been resolved.
- Some customers have reported that the 'Ignore Bad Sectors' option failed to suppress CRC error code 23. This has been resolved.
- File and Folder
- When searching for files in an File and Folder backup to Restore, pressing Enter button on “Select the Files that you want to Restore” would inadvertently closes the dialog. In this situation Reflect would crash. This has been resolved.
- Scheduled Tasks
- This release fixes a problem that caused a deadlock between scheduled backups in some configurations.
- viBoot
- Image Backup of a VM could fail when the base image used to create the VM contained multiple disks. This has been resolved.
- General
- Occasionally, Restore menu -> 'Browse for an image' caused a program exception. This has been resolved.
- We've optimized the size of some UI elements for 800x600 screen resolution in the Windows PE rescue media.
- The Rescue Media 'Devices With No Drivers' dialog is now displayed fully localized.
- We've fixed a problem where malformed driver .inf files could cause ReDeploy to crash.

- Changed Block Tracker
We've resolved a rare BAD_POOL_HEADER exception caused by an I/O error raised when CBT read a highly fragmented NTFS Master File table (MFT).
- Disk Images
- v8.1 images could take longer to restore if the image file storage medium was a bottleneck in the restore process. This has been resolved.
- On some CPUs and disk drive combinations, Reflect v8.1 manual image verification could be noticeable slower than Reflect v8.0. This has been resolved.
- Some customers have reported a slower backup speed to Network Attached Storage. This has been improved.
- Adjusting the CPU priority slider to the 1st or 2nd position will now also reduce the maximum CPU usage to mitigate system slowdown when creating images.
- Some image backups fail with error code 995. This has been resolved.
- General
- The Email parameters for skipped backups are now correctly localized for the currently selected language.

When reading some Bitlocker volumes, Reflect could attempt to allocate an erroneously large block of memory. This has been resolved.
- System Restore
Staging a system restore from Windows would sometimes fail to automatically reboot after the restore completed within the rescue environment. This has been resolved.
- General
Lower than actual write speed values were shown in Disk Write Performance tool. This has been resolved.
- Rescue Media
We've updated the Windows PE 10 download to version 2004.
- viBoot
- We've added VirtualBox 7.0 support to viBoot.
- VirtualBox VMs sometimes would not show in viBoot GUI. This has been resolved.

- Technician's USB Media
Expired technician's media would pop up "Technicians' media has expired" message box twice. This has been resolved.
- Imaging
- We've improved the speed of loading Delta Indexes when there are many Incremental backups in a backup set.
- Drive Letters were not shown in the Partition Layout view for Dynamic Disk volumes. This has been resolved.
- Reflect Home or Workstation would show ReFS file systems as "Unformatted". ReFS is now displayed correctly, however, please note that you need Reflect Server or Server Plus for 'intelligent sector copy' images of ReFS formatted drives.
- Macrium Reflect General
- When creating a backup, it was possible to paste in a filename that contained invalid characters. This is now resolved.
- Reflect maintains a "Recent backup destinations" list for searching existing backups. Occasionally, under certain usage scenarios, the selection state of some of the check boxes on this list could not be remembered. This is now resolved.
- Leading and trailing spaces are now trimmed for file path edit boxes.
- ReflectMonitor did not display the Current Progress for Automatic Verification. This has been resolved.

Expired Technician's USB sticks would sometimes crash on startup, rather than giving a "This Technicians' media has expired" message box. This has been resolved.

- ReFS volumes on dynamic disks were shown as "Unformatted" in Reflect Server. This has been resolved.
- Restores and Clones. We've improved the handling of logical partitions on MBR disk to grow the containing extended partition to the end of the disk.
- We've Improved the support for meta block groups on Linux EXT2+ formatted file-systems. Previously, fragmented Group Descriptors could cause the file system to show as unformatted

- The trial registration process could be blocked on Server 2003. This has been resolved.
- In dark mode, the Mount Exchange Backup dialog's backup tree was not being themed correctly. This has been resolved.
- On the Scripts tab, the Add Script button will now always be enabled.
- 'mrauto.exe' caused Reflect to fail to start when using invalid chars in backup filename. This has been resolved.
- A different backup file could be selected in Existing backups view after cancelling Run backup/Edit Comment/etc. This has been resolved.

The Image Guardian Settings Events tab would not auto populate with Windows Events. This issue has been resolved.

When building PE 10 rescue media, if a custom wim file was provided, the Windows PE 10 download would sometimes incorrectly report failure. This has been resolved.
- Macrium Reflect General
- We've added additional information to the 'Detach Image' dialog to identify the mounted image file.
- We've added the ability to purge the scheduled tasks history for Macrium Task Scheduler (MTS) jobs.
- Image logs have been enhanced to include the unique volume path for each file system imaged. This helps to identify which volume is being verified when there is no drive letter assigned to the file system.
- Saving a generated backup script in a previously unseen folder will show a 'Script folder warning' message to ensure the folder is protected from unauthorised access.
- Renaming scripts from the script view context menu could prematurely cancel or lose the file extension. This has been resolved.
- Site Manager created Image Files and Logs would not always have the backup definition displayed as Site Manager nor be correctly filtered. This has been resolved.
- Using the Existing Files view context menu to View Backup Logs by definition, will now show Site Manager logs for a Site Manager created Image File.

- Rescue Media
- We've added font and language pack support for PE 10/11. The language pack files for Japanese, Korean, Russian and Ukrainian will be added automatically during the build process. Fonts for Japanese and Korean will also be included.
- The Rescue Media Builder now has an option to copy IP and DNS settings from the host PC into the rescue media.
- For each device on the Advanced Options Drivers tab, there is now an option to not copy drivers from the host machine, even if there are no corresponding drivers already available in the WinPE/WinRE wim.
- On the Advanced Options Drivers tab, selecting the Use Host Driver drop-down option would not always change the driver status. This has been resolved.
- When creating USB-based Windows PE 3 rescue media, the Multi-boot (MBR/UEFI) option could sometimes be selected, even though PE 3 does not support multi-boot. This has been resolved.
- A recent Windows update on some Windows 10 or 11 systems caused WinRE based Rescue Media ISO files/Optical media to fail to UEFI boot if created after the update. This has been resolved. Please re-create ISO files/Optical rescue media if this affects you.
- On-board AMD RAID devices were not being correctly detected/handled when creating rescue media. This has been resolved.
- Imaging
- We've added support for Hardware/Self Encrypting Drives (SED). Volumes on a SED will be treated the same as software BitLocker encrypted volumes, with the same backup and restore outcomes.
- Change Block Tracker – Minor performance improvements.
- Volume Access Driver – Minor performance improvements.
- File and Folder
- The File and Folder backup wizard would select both Folder and CD radio options at the same time. This has been resolved.
- The Add Folder dialog was not showing volume mount points. This has been resolved.
- The search controls in the File and Folder backup view could disappear when changing source folders. This has been resolved.
- Image Guardian
- Server Plus
- The first page of the Exchange Mailbox Restore wizard will now show the backup definition name for each Exchange backup.
- In rare situations, a scheduled Exchange backups running as SYSTEM could falsely report "The specified module could not be found". This has been resolved.

- When shutting down after a backup, the notification pop-up now has the option to postpone the shutdown. This new option is also available for rebooting, hibernating or suspending after a backup.

- Postponed scheduled backups will now minimize to the system tray, with new options to postpone the backup further or to run immediately.
- If a scheduled backup is configured to send an email on backup failure, then the Macrium Task Scheduler will now attempt to send the email itself if Reflect failed to launch.

- Encrypted Backups
After upgrading to v8.0.6350, scheduled encrypted backups failed with 'File is encrypted and supplied password is incorrect'. This has been resolved.

- Macrium Reflect Free
- Localization
- We've added French, Russian and Ukrainian translations to Macrium Reflect, and improved the coverage of translated strings.
- Windows 11
- Support has been added in RMBuilder for the Windows 11 PE Rescue Environment.
- The rescue media now correctly automatically assigns drive letter 'C' to the Windows 11 system drive.
- The rescue media now correctly identifies and labels Windows 11 for 'Fix Boot Problems' and 'ReDeploy'
- We've fixed a problem that could cause a Windows 11 disk clone to hang at the end of the clone process.
If this affects you then please create fresh rescue media after updating.
- Rescue Media Builder
- The interface would not scale correctly when moved to a different monitor. This has been resolved.
- Scheduling
- The backup delay after reboot for scheduled backups is now user configurable. This enables a custom delay to enable network shares and external disks to come on-line before starting a backup.

- The message displayed in the log for a full target disk has been improved
- On some systems, tasks scheduled to run at logon would not always run. This has been resolved.
- File and Folder Backup/Restore
- There’s a new option in Restore to select the "Parent Folder" to restore when restoring to a new location.
It’s now possible to restore individual files directly into the new folder, or restore higher parent folder(s) of the selected files.
Note, if the files selected to restore are in multiple folders then the common parent folder of the selected files is used as the base parent.

- Some file modified dates in File and Folder backups could be off by the DST time difference. This has been resolved.
- Use of inconsistent share name case in network share paths could lead to multiple root folders when mounting the backup in Explorer. This has been resolved.
- Customers reported a rare case where exclusion filters could be ignored in Japanese. This has been resolved.
Cloning
- We've resolved a problem where shrinking large FAT32 file systems, where the root directory cluster wasn't at a standard offset, could cause the cloned file system to be unreadable.
Note: The cluster offset indicates that the file system wasn't created by Windows, and is a rare occurrence.
viBoot
- viBoot would not respond to a theme change. This has been resolved.
- viBoot incorrectly checking password encrypted image files during VM creation. This has been resolved.
- Empty error message was displayed when attempting to change repository location. This has been resolved.
Change Block Tracker
- Change Block Tracker would sometimes fail to attach to the System volume. This has been resolved.
Image Guardian
- We have improved the attack detection algorithms to provide enhanced security.
General
- Customers were reporting issues with network share access in the UI and during backup. This has been resolved.
General UI
- The File menu option in Reflect Monitor would sometimes not be shown. This has been resolved.
- The Restore button in the Restore wizard would not disable all page items. This has been resolved.
- Customers reported that the backup log could be in mixed English and German. This has been resolved.
- Log View refresh button was not correctly finding new log files. This has been resolved.
- Log View browser view option would not correctly show the backup state image. This has been resolved.
- Existing Backups View was not showing split file total sizes alongside the single file size. This has been resolved.
- Customers reported a crash in the Existing Backups view when refreshing the list of files. This has been resolved.
- In PE Explorer the OK button was not opening selected volumes. This has been resolved.
- Scheduled backups on completion could leave the Close button disabled. This has been resolved.
- Customers reported that the backup system tray icon could not be shown. This has been resolved.
- Windows Notifications were not translated. This has been resolved.
- The verify process after backup showed a double percentage sign. This has been resolved.
- Standalone WebView2 browser for email authentication has been removed due to Google API change.
- Existing Backups View. The size column is now configurable.

- General
- Localization
- Rescue Media Builder
- Recent backup folders were not always being copied when creating rescue media. This has been resolved.
- We've added a network authentication prompt when saving an ISO file to a disconnected network share.
- Technician's Rescue Media
- The option to prefix the backup filename with IMAGEID was not available in PE/Portable mode. This has been resolved.
- The toolbar for Defaults was not visible in Technician's PE/Portable mode. This has been resolved.
- File and Folder Backup
- Folders to backup were not added in alphabetic order. This has been resolved.
- File & Folder backup wizard would not use the users locale date/time format for the folder date/time. This has been resolved.
- Server Plus
- The refresh of the Exchange backup cache could lead to a "Not Responding" state. This has been resolved.
- Exchange backup could lead to an error "Not Enough Storage is available to process this command". This has been resolved.
- A program exception could occur when specifying an alternate location for SQL Server database restore. This has been resolved.
- Clone
- Email Attachments were missing for Clone operation. This has been resolved.
- Clone operations could fail to start if Forensic Copy was selected. This has been resolved.
- Image
An edge case with some flash drives could cause the last physical cluster of an imaged file system to be skipped. This has been resolved.
- Changed Block Tracker
- The CBT state in Macrium Reflect menus would not always track the current CBT state correctly. This has been resolved.
- On some systems, CBT could not be enabled on the system volume. This has been resolved.
- Image Mounting
- Mounted NTFS volumes would show as tbFAT in the Windows Explorer properties dialog when the option to "Allow access to restricted folders" had been checked. This has been resolved.
- When mounting an image the image comment would be displayed over the checkbox forcing 2 clicks to enable the checkbox. This has been resolved.
- When an image is automatically dismounted as part of consolidation, the Unmount backup dialog would retain the mounted volume. This has been resolved.
- Defaults and Settings
- The network authentication defaults now has a Test option to test connectivity.
- On 32 bit systems, default network user names were not being saved. This has been resolved.
- Log View
- The toolbar on the Log View could become corrupt when hiding the filters after switching tabs. This has been resolved.
- The Log view refresh button was clearing the log filters. This has been resolved.
- Existing Backups View
- The Existing Backups View browse option would not automatically select the file that was browsed for. This has been resolved.
- We've made the 'Folders list' column in the Existing Backups View re-sizable.
- Reflect Monitor
Cancelling a backup in Reflect Monitor could leave some buttons disabled. This has been resolved.

- Windows PE
When mapping a network drive in WinPE/RE the error "A specified logon session does not exist. It may already have been terminated." could be encountered. This has been resolved.
- Rescue Media Builder
We've added the WinRE Boot\Resources folder contents to the rescue media build for improved loading visualization.
- Log View
Log Files View would crash if a completion message exceeded 255 chars, this has been resolved.
- UI Theme
- Some Edit controls in viBoot would fail to respond to mouse interactions when using dark themes. This has been resolved.
- When using the light theme, some UI elements would incorrectly display a dark grey overlay. This has been resolved.
- Consolidation
- The standalone consolidation tool 'Consolidate.exe' rejected correct passwords for password protected backups. This has been resolved.
- A rare condition could cause consolidation to fail with a 'Bad file descriptor' error. This has been resolved.
- Backup File Name
- When an Incremental or Differential had no backup set to append to and created a Full, the {BACKUPTYPE} Parameter would be incorrectly replaced with the requested type rather than 'Full'. This has been resolved.
- A backup set with alternative locations, where the Full backup was created with Macrium Reflect v7.2.4732 or earlier, could cause the backup file name to exclude the default Image ID and target the wrong directory. This has been resolved.
- We've added a 'Collision Sequence' number that persists for a backup set when the Full backup has the same name as an existing backup. This ensures that backup sets with similar names and no unique prefix, can be easily identified by file name.
- VBScript Generation
The auto generated VBScript source template failed to run with a code syntax error. This has been resolved.
- Scheduled Tasks
In some circumstances, when editing non SYSTEM account scheduled tasks, Reflect would ask for a username and password even when one had already been provided. This has been resolved.
- Restore
- The locked drive dialog incorrectly showed drive 'X:' rather than the locked volume when prompting to restore using the rescue media. This has been resolved.
- When launching a restore from an image file in Windows Explorer, the restore Wizard would be suppressed for the first run after a reboot. This has been resolved.
- The Restore/Clone automatic resize was not locking the size of MBR WinRE recovery partitions. This has been resolved.
- Existing Backups View
The Existing Backups view could become unsynchronized with the "Folders To Search". This has been resolved.
- Backup Definition Rename
- Renaming a backup definition file could lead to an abnormal Reflect termination. This has been resolved.
- Renaming a backup definition file could cause the next definition in the list to incorrectly show the name of the file just renamed. This has been resolved.
- Network Path Auto-Complete
A long delay could be encountered when entering a UNC or network share path as a backup path. This has been resolved.
- Server Plus
- When backing up Microsoft Exchange the incorrect databases, intermittently, could be listed in the backup summary. This has been resolved.
- Exchange backups could fail with: "One or more files failed the copy process" if the database path uses a different case to the defaulted case. This has been resolved.
- viBoot
The network adapter settings in the create VM wizard could be incorrectly hidden. This has been resolved.
- Various

- Cloning
- When running clone jobs in 'batch' mode the clone dialog would incorrectly be shown at the end of the job. This has been resolved.
- The taskbar icon could be hidden for scheduled clone jobs. This has been resolved.
Windows PE
If Windows PE has a low horizontal screen resolution of 800 pixels or less, then the restore/clone dialog could be 'clipped', rendering the 'Finish' button inaccessible. This has been resolved.
ReflectUI.exe
ReflectUI could generate a program error on Windows 8.1 and Server 2012 and cause multiple icons to appear in the notification area. This has been resolved.
Backup to DVD/CD
Reflect could generate a program exception when ejecting optical media at the end of a backup. This has been resolved.
File and Folder Backup
When searching password protected/encrypted File and Folder backups, the entered correct password was rejected causing the search to fail. This has been resolved.
Retention Warning
The backup completion warning, when the retention purge deletes all backups prior to running the backup, wasn't being suppressed if the retention rules were explicitly set to retain 1 Full. This has been resolved.

- Windows XP
Some 32 bit components could error during initialization when running on Windows XP. This has been resolved.
- Shutdown after Backup
We've resolved a problem that caused the power settings after a backup to not be honored.
- Exchange
Exchange backups would not correctly group by year when selecting a backup to restore from. This has been resolved.
- Scheduled Backups View
A rare program error could occur in the schedule history view when retrieving audit history records. This has been resolved.
- UI Improvements
- Some Windows installations, including, but not limited to, Japanese and Chinese traditional, could substitute the UI font with an incorrect typeface. This has been resolved.
- Image Guardian Event Viewer did not correctly display Warning icons. This has been resolved.
- Technicians License
The Technicians Portable application could display an incorrect expiry date in the application title bar. This has been resolved.
- Batch Backups
Backups run in 'batch mode', using a script by passing parameters to the Reflect command line would incorrectly show a completion dialog. This has been resolved.
- viBoot
viBoot could fail to load v8 encrypted image files. This has been resolved.

- Reflect UI Font
We've changed the menu fonts used in v8.0 to be the same face and point size as in v7.x. A future update will add additional configuration options.
- Main Toolbar
The main application toolbar can now by hidden to save space. Take the 'View' > 'Toolbar' menu option.
- Log View
- To save screen space, we've added a Show/Hide button for the filter options in the Log View.
- Logs were not being purged on startup when the retention was set for zero days. This has been resolved.
- We've resolved a crash when loading log files that are empty.
- File and Folder
- File and Folder backups could incorrectly report access denied for some files when backing up. This has been resolved.
- The copied files list now shows Modified and Created dates in local time rather than UTC.
- Installer
The 32 bit installer could crash unexpectedly on some systems. This has been resolved.
- Password Reveal
Password reveal box now supports Windows Hello PIN authentication..
- MS Outlook 365
We've fixed a problem with Outlook personal account usage in the MS Outlook 365 Email Settings
