Bug fixes and Improvements v10.0.8304 - 3rd October 2024
- Backup file update
- This release includes a small adjustment to the backup file format. This fixes the error 'CBT Init - $BITMAP not found in image' that may have been displayed previously.
Note: Backup images created with earlier versions may not be read correctly in this build.
To ensure reliable use going forward, we recommend starting fresh with new backups created with this version.
- VirtualBox 7.1 Support
- Added support for VirtualBox 7.1, including ARM host platforms.
- Other Changes and Fixes
- viBoot VM Backup Fix: Resolved an issue where backups of viBoot virtual machines could fail due to the source disk not being found.
- Driver Signing Issue Resolved: Fixed a problem with the psvolacc.sys driver from the previous full installer, which was not digitally signed by Microsoft and could cause issues mounting images.

- New backup file extensions
Reflect X introduces new file extensions – .mrimgx and .mrbakx – to differentiate v8 files from vX files. New images and backups created in Reflect X will use these formats, while incremental and differential backups for v8 files will retain the original format.
Pre-existing vX files with old extensions will still work in Reflect X, however they may now also appear in the UI with the updated .mrimgx and .mrbakx extensions.
New icons for these file types have been added and are visible in both Windows Explorer and PE Explorer.
Note: The new Windows Explorer icons are added by running the full installer only.
- Imaging

Creating backups may fail with write error or Reflect could crash after recovering from a write failure when Resumable Images option is enabled. This has been resolved.
- Temporary files used by Resumable Images may be left behind after a failure and not cleaned up when starting a new backup. This has been resolved.
- Mounting an unformatted partition or a partition containing an unrecognized file-system could require a restart of Windows to completely remove the drive. This has been resolved.

- Exclude Files From Images
We fixed a problem whereby some files might not be excluded from the backup. In our testing, typically files in "Windows\Temp" were not being excluded when the "Temp folders" option was selected, but other folders could also be affected.
- Imaging

We've fixed a bug that could cause image backups terminating with an error or incremental images to be same size as the full.
Note: This could also lead to corrupt image files, so we recommend that existing image files created with v10.0.8235 should be disregarded and re-created with this release.
- We've fixed the 'VSS Closing..' status and progress bar marquee that could be absent from previous vX releases.

- Write Failure Retry
We've added automatic retry support for write failures, ensuring that image processes continue without interruption due to temporary issues like network dropouts or USB cable disconnections during the writing of the target image file.
To configure the settings, take 'Other Tasks' > 'Edit Defaults and Settings' > 'Advanced' > 'Advanced Error Handling'
- Windows XP Support
Reflect X now supports Windows XP as well as all later versions of Windows.

Reflect X now offers full support for Windows CoPilot+ on ARM architecture. This update ensures smooth, efficient backups and flawless recovery operations using Windows RE rescue media on your CoPilot+ ARM devices.
The x64 installers provide dual compatibility, supporting both x64 and ARM PC architectures.
Please note: Macrium viBoot for Windows Hyper-V will be fully functional in an upcoming build. Currently, VirtualBox does not support ARM.
- Enhanced User Interface for Excluding Files from Volume Shadow Copy
We’ve improved the dialog layout and added a default option for 'swapfile.sys', 'pagefile.sys', and 'hiberfil.sys'.

- Enhanced User Interface for Excluding Files from Volume Shadow Copy
We have made the user interface for excluding files from the Volume Shadow Copy more accessible and user-friendly. Key updates include:
- New "Exclude Files" Section: Now located under "Backup Defaults".
- Common Exclusion Categories: Added options for common exclusions, including support for "Temporary Internet Files" in Internet Explorer, Edge, and Chrome.
- Renamed Dialog: The previous "Exclude Files" dialog is now "Advanced Exclusions".
Note: Settings configured in the previous beta version will be lost due to renaming for UI improvements.

We've addressed multiple issues with Image file mounting. Please check the outstanding vX mounting issues to confirm if the issues have been addressed.
Important Note: If you mount an unformatted drive, dismounting it may result in a stale drive remaining visible in Windows Explorer. This is a known issue, and we are working to resolve it in the next update.

We’ve improved the accuracy of the progress bar and transfer rate for RDR restores, along with optimizing the image read speed for improved performance.

- Exclude Files From Images
You can now exclude files from the Volume Shadow Copy and hence from the Image. With filters, you can exclude specific files, or wild card filters can be recursively applied to selected folders.

- Image mounting was disabled in Rescue Media for previous beta released. This has now been re-enabled.

- File Format
Important Update: Breaking Change to Image and File/Folder Formats
We have introduced a breaking change to the file formats for Images and Files/Folders. As a result, files created with this version and future versions will not be compatible with previous vX builds. However, this version maintains compatibility with all vX files, allowing you to open them without any issues.
- Enhanced Resumable Imaging Functionality
We have updated the resumable imaging functionality to make it more robust.
Please note that split image files cannot be resumed.
To test this functionality:
- Use the Windows Task Manager to end the ReflectBin.exe process while an image is running.
- Restart or shut down Windows while an image is running.
Important: Ensure that VSS has completed taking the Volume Snapshot before ending the ReflectBin.exe process.
Expected Behavior:
The imaging process should automatically restart if Reflect is launched, Windows restarts, or within one minute if ReflectBin.exe is terminated in Task Manager and Reflect is not manually started.

- Snapshots created for resumable images were not cleaned up correctly. This has been resolved.

- Disk Images
- A delta index building error could cause an application crash, and this could also cause image files to be appended with the text '.error_loading'. This has been resolved.
- if 'Purge oldest backup set(s) if less than' was disabled, and image file verification was enabled, then retention rules would incorrectly be run twice and delete the currently running backup. This has been resolved.
- Other Changes and Fixes
- Backup comments for vX images were not being displayed in the Windows File Explorer shell extension. This has been resolved.
- We've fixed a patching problem that caused the 'ThreadManagement.dll' file to prevent patching when locked.
Note: Patches from builds earlier than v10.0.8098 may still show this problem, but v10.0.8098 and later will not.

- We've fixed a bug with File and Folder Incremental and Differential backups that would not mount and would cause an application error when restoring.
Note: All existing vX File and Folder backups and Incremental backups of v8.x files created with vX should be recreated. Unfortunately these backup files are invalid.

- Reflect failed to notify other applications that a mounted image had been dismounted. This has been resolved.

- We've fixed a bug with Reflect X split image files that could cause an error with Windows File Explorer, and also cause split files to be displayed incorrectly in the existing files view.

- VSS would fail to create a snapshot for File and Folder backups. This has been resolved.
- viBoot
- viBoot would fail to decrypt images encrypted with AES-128 or AES-192 encryption. This has been resolved.

- Two different versions of the splash screen were being displayed on Rescue Media startup. This is now resolved.
